Specialist Psychological Assessments

We offer a range of comprehensive psychological assessments, for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. These include the following;

  • Developmental & Neurodevelopmental Assessments e.g. Autism & ADHD
  • Cognitive assessments – where there are concerns about how a child is developing and whether the difficulties experienced might indicate a specific developmental or learning difficulty.

Our assessments are evidence-based, NICE compliant and multidisciplinary where appropriate (e.g. Autism assessments).

We have strong working links with mainstream services (e.g. Paediatrics, CAMHS, neurodevelopmental pathways) and professional colleagues in partner disciplines (e.g. Specialist Speech & Language Therapists, Specialist Occupational Therapists).

Our assessments and reports can be used to support onward referral into mainstream services and support pathways.

Cognitive Assessments:

A WISC V (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children 5th Edition) or WAIS IV (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale) will be used to assess your child or young adult’s cognitive abilities (thinking and reasoning skills).

An assessment of Executive Function may also be included (these are key regulatory brain skills which help us to plan and organise, manage our emotions, behaviour and cognitive states, follow instructions, initiate work and stay focused and on task).

These are standardised, well-recognised and widely used assessments, which can provide a helpful outline of individual learning profiles and patterns of strength and weakness in cognitive capacity. Individualised feedback and a comprehensive assessment report will be provided as part of this assessment.

Autism Assessments:

Our comprehensive assessments for Autism (known as Autism Spectrum Disorder or Condition, ASD or ASC) are provided through partnership working with specialist multidisciplinary professionals, in accordance with good professional practice and NICE guidance.

We have established links with local ASD assessment pathways and where possible, work in partnership with mainstream services. Our assessments are comprehensive and in keeping with mainstream assessments. They routinely include some or all of the following:

  • A standardised cognitive assessment (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children or Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, depending on the age of the young person)
  • A full developmental history with an additional neurodevelopmental focus
  • A standardised Autism specific assessment, known as the ADOS 2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, 2nd Edition)
  • Speech & Language Therapy Assessment of social communication & language skills
  • School/pre-school liaison and/or observations

Individualised feedback, including diagnostic decision-making, and a comprehensive assessment report, will be provided as part of this assessment. This report would be available for parents to share with relevant professionals involved in their child’s care and can be used to support onward referral and education and support planning.

Standard Cost: from £2000 (prices may vary according to the assessment components required)

ADHD Assessments:

Assessments for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, can be carried out on their own or as part of broader neurodevelopmental assessments. An assessment for ADHD would usually involve the following:

  • Comprehensive information gathering, including the completion of targeted questionnaires and rating measures for home and education settings (if applicable)
  • Observations in another setting where possible and/or liaison with staff
  • Standardised cognitive assessment (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children or Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale depending on the age of the young person)
  • An assessment of Executive Function (these are key brain skills which help us to plan and organise, manage our emotions, behaviour and cognitive states, follow instructions, initiate work and stay focused and on task)
  • A comprehensive Developmental History.

Individualised feedback, including diagnostic decision-making, and a comprehensive assessment report will be provided as part of this assessment. This report would be available for parents to share with relevant professionals involved in their child’s care.

Please note: we do not provide medication recommendations or prescriptions.

Standard Cost: from £2000 (prices may vary according to the assessment components required)

Combined Neurodevelopmental Assessments:

For some children and young people, a combined neurodevelopmental assessment is required, to identify specific areas of difficulty and determine the most appropriate diagnosis/diagnoses.

This may be needed where there are multiple or complex difficulties and/or overlapping presentations that may have different causes.

Standard Cost: from £2500 (prices may vary if additional assessment components are required)
